Win Holiday Vouchers
Unless you are into the contest and giveaway scene, chances are that the idea of collecting vouchers for just about anything probably isnt on your radar screen. Believe it or not, there are literally thousands of contests, sweepstakes and giveaways where the prizes are vouchers. You can get vouchers for just about anything, and especially around holiday time they can come in mighty handy. With the economy on everyones mind these days, vouchers can mean the difference between enjoying the holidays or feeling like Scrooge counting pennies and cutting costs to the bone.
As you plan your holiday shopping, be aware that for some of the items on your list different companies may giveaway vouchers as an enticement to buy their brand. It takes a little investigating of course. But as an example, suppose your soon-to-be college bound son or daughter needs a laptop computer. Its not at all difficult to find good laptops at cut rate prices. But some brand names offer vouchers built in to the price of the laptop. With savvy shopping you can make your childs holiday and include an extra voucher for 25, 50 or even 100 dollars or euros that can be redeemed for a variety of things.
Some voucher giveaways are fairly open ended in terms of what you are allowed to purchase. Others might require that the vouchers be spent on computer supplies. Either way it is an extra bonus that puts the original gift over the top.
While many US companies and organizations are beginning to turn to vouchers to boost sales, nowhere is the holiday voucher system more prevalent than in Europe. Going back to the 1980s, France was one of the first countries to use holiday vouchers as reward for workers. Initially intended to assure the lowest paid workers that they would be able to go away for holidays, French employers and employees combined to make the system a viable one. Vouchers were used to purchase rail tickets and resort accommodations at up to 50 percent below market value. Vouchers were also good for airline tickets, childrens summer camps, museums and other similar venues.
The National Agency for Holiday Vouchers was established to administer the program. Depending on the choices made by management and workers, the participating companies could buy vouchers and distribute them to their workers, or workers could get credits for vouchers and accumulate them in a savings account. Workers could also buy vouchers directly. Over the next 15 years the number of vouchers distributed to workers were valued in the trillion franc level. More than just a means of providing holidays for workers who otherwise could not have afforded to take a vacation, the voucher system has become very important to the French economy.
Now more and more companies and retail outlets are offering chances to win holiday vouchers as part of their marketing efforts. Grand prizes of 5,000 or 10,000 euros are not unusual, and people are more apt to spend their money in retail outlets that run holiday voucher giveaways. As of this writing holiday voucher giveaways include:
* a ski holiday for seven days at the Whistler Blackcomb resort, one of the best ski resorts in North America
* a family holiday vacation to the Universal Orlando theme park in Florida
* a weeks luxury trip for two to South Africa
* a once in a lifetime trip to India
* a seven night log cabin holiday in Norway
* a ski holiday for two in Alberta, Canada
As with any contest, sweepstake or giveaway, holiday voucher giveaways may have certain restrictions attached to them. Be sure to read the terms and conditions section carefully so that you dont find yourself in the disappointing position of having to turn down a prize because you did not fully understand the requirements. On the other hand, most holiday vouchers carry no restrictions.
Retail stores generally advertise their giveaways in print, on the television and over the Internet. Look through all three sources to find out if there are any holiday voucher giveaways going on in your neighborhood. Organizations are beginning to use holiday voucher giveaways as a means of fundraising. Dont overlook the possibility to combine charitable contributions with a chance to win a fabulous holiday voucher.
Holiday vouchers and vouchers for non-travel are getting more and more popular. Take advantage of this popularity. Its another way to stretch your dollars in an unsettled economy. |
